Ethiopia’s Army Chief killed in attempted Coup

Ethiopian Army Chief of staff Gen. Seare Mekonnenand and at least three senior officials have been killed in an attempted coup in the capital Addis Ababa, the office of the country’s Prime Minister has confirmed today through a televised address.  


Earlier on Saturday regional government President of Amhara State, Ambachew Mekonnen  and his adviser Ezez Wassie were killed in the regional capital Bahir Dar in what several observers say were linked incidents.

Ambachew was shot during a meeting that became dreadful and a death scene and he succumbed to injuries shortly. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has confirmed both incidents on a State television.


Before his elevation to the post of  President of theAmhara Region he served in many ranks, including the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Ethiopia. He also served as an infrastructure adviser in the Office of the Prime Minister prior to his selection as regional President on 6 March 2019army chief is shot dead in Addis Ababa
