India’s PM Modi’s coalition leads polls

Incumbent Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leads the May19 election with a huge margin with 303 according to results from 535 seats out of 542 declared so far against 54 won by the Congress.


The BJP-led coalition, that National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has won 351 seats according to official results at the electoral commission.   


Modi who won his first five-year term in 2014 when he got 282 is the first non-Congress Prime Minister to bounce back for the full second five-year term in the country’s election history.


 Voter turnout is about 67 per cent of some 900 million eligible voters who took part in the concluded election.
