157 feared dead in Ethiopian airline crash

157 people are feared dead after an Ethiopian aircraft from Addis Ababa bound for Nairobi crushed this morning, the Ethiopian government confirmed through a statement.  


“The aircraft B-737-800MAX with Reg.No. ET-AVJ  had 149 passengers and eight crew were on board the flight according to the manifesto,” a statements says in parts.


According to the latest statement, the aircraft had lost contact.


The Office of the PM, on behalf of the Government and people of Ethiopia, would like to express it’s deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya this morning.


The search and rescue operations were ongoing near the crash site near Bishoftu, which is 60km (37 miles) south-east of the capital, the he airline said in the statements.


"Ethiopian Airlines staff will be sent to the accident scene and will do everything possible to assist the emergency services,"
