Rwanda’s minister for East African Community Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe, March1 accused Uganda of misinforming the world that they (Uganda) had never harassed nor detained any Rwandan national.
Nduhungirehe said that over 40 Rwandans are currently languishing in safe houses in neighbouring Uganda.
The statements by the two east African countries come a day after Rwanda temporarily closed the main border post of Gatuna February28 to allow the construction of a One Stop Border Post (OSBP), a reason Uganda reluctantly buys.
“This statement is factually and demonstrably incorrect. There are more than 40
#Rwanda-n citizens languishing in cells of Uganda's Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence ( #CMI) and more than 800 Rwandans who were deported from or refused entry to #Uganda since January 2018” said Nduhungirehe through a tweet.
“We did already and our countless notes verbales remain unanswered. You can start by the list below and contact our High Commission in
#Kampala for further information. The families of the detained are getting worried about the fate of their loved ones” he added.
“There’s no witch hunt for Rwandese in Uganda. There’s also nobody from Rwanda being held by the Ugandan authorities for any reason. We would like to send a clear message to Rwanda that there’s no one Uganda is harassing from Rwanda or has in custody,” said Ofwono Opondo, Uganda’s government spokesperson.
Rwanda’s tax body (RRA) has said it closed border to allow construction of One Stop Border Post (OSBP) a reason Uganda refused to accept alleging that no Rwandan, including students studying on the Ugandan side are allowed to cross into Uganda.
“In a bid to expedite the One Stop Border Post (OSBP) construction works currently taking place at the Gatuna Border Post that are aimed at extending smooth flow of goods and services at the border post the management of Rwanda Revenue Authority would like to inform the general public that effective February28, 2019, all heavy trucks carrying goods destined and via Gatuna Border Post shall be temporally free sex stories diverted from using Gatuna Border to Kagitumba/Mirama Border Post,” said RRA in a communiqué.
“The dates to resume the use the Gatuna route shall be communicated later,” added RRA.
Rwanda is on record of having repeatedly accused Uganda of jeopardizing her security by working together and supporting Rwanda’s rebel outfits including the Rwanda National Congress (RNC) and Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).
Uganda alleges that since the border was closed no single Rwandan commercial vehicle has entered Uganda.
Uganda has recently blamed Rwanda of increased espionage in her territory, an accusation Rwanda has denied.
