Rwanda’s National Commission for the Fight against Genocide (CNLG) has denounced negationist conference going on today in Brussels that intends to deny the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. The conference was organized by Seth Sendashonga Institute.
CNLG Chief, Dr Jean Damascene Bizimana has said in a strong-worded statement that the conference which usually hosts mostly genocide deniers belonging to political parties National Republican Movement for Democracy and Development (MRND) and the Republican Democratic Movement (MDR-PARMEHUTU), the Hutu extremist political parties aims at erasing the memory traces of the genocide against the Tutsi which they deliberately call “Rwanda genocide” in an attempt to propagate the idea of double genocide that maintains that Hutus were also massacred. Th UN recognised the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
“The Seth Sendashonga Institute (IScid) is organizing a conference-debate on the denial of genocide perpetrated against Tutsi on 23 February 2019 in Brussels. This association created on May 1, 1999 in Brussels is clearly a forum of deniers, the common denominator of which is the propagation of genocide denialist ideas,” said a statement released yesterday.
“The speakers: Filip Reyntjens, Faustin Twagiramungu, Jean Baptiste Nkuliyingoma, Johan Swinnen, Gustave Mbonyumutwa, and Dr Innocent Biruka, all share denialist positions and strive to stain the memory of the victims and erase the traces of this last genocide of the 20th century. They defend the false formulation of "Rwandan genocide" with the aim of attempting to enthrone an imaginary genocide allegedly committed against Hutu,” adds the statement.
Rwanda accuses these Hutu speakers and their allies of attempting to falsify the country’s history by spreading lies and accusing the Kigali regime for committing 1994 genocide.
“The thread running through Filip Reyntjens' publications since the end of the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi is a web of lies and falsifications of history. One of his strategies is to use all manner of manipulations, such as books, articles and colloquia to demonize Tutsi victims, to attack the leadership of the country incarnated by the Rwandan Patriotic Front and thus overthrow the responsibility for the genocide by attributing it to the Tutsi,” hd porn continues the statement.
This denial conference is held two months before the commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsi.
Rwanda has blamed Johan Swinnen a former Belgian Ambassador to Rwanda (1990-1994) for having been “aware of all the preparations for the genocide and either ignored it or was a passive accomplice of the genocidaires” and for “preferring to collaborate with the deniers, to offer a rereading of the history of Rwanda by denying the specificity of the extermination of the Tutsi to establish a wrong version of the facts”
However, CNLG commends in advance all those who recognize and act for the dignity of the victims and survivors of the Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi. It encourages Rwandans and friends of Rwanda to join forces in the fight against genocide denial.
More than one million mostly Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed in 1994. Preparations for the 25th commemoration of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi are underway in Rwanda and in the Rwandan diaspora communities.
