President Paul Kagame yesterday reiterated the key role of Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF) at the passout of 180 officer cadets at Rwanda Military Academy, Gako in the South East Rwanda. Kagame said that RDF’s main responsibility was to ensure the safety of Rwandans besides protection of Rwanda’s sovereignty and fighting wars.
“You are given the training and knowledge to protect the sovereignty of our nation, to fight wars and keep Rwandans safe. It is an important responsibility,” said Kagame.
Kagame, however, emphasized that theirs was not to start wars with others but they (RDF) were ready to encounter enemies of the state.
“RDF is trained and prepared to fight wars but not to start them with others. But if others make us their problem and choose to start a war with us, that is when we use judgment, determination and training to fight and finish it for them,” the President added.
“The profession you have chosen is a great one. One you should be proud of. You can build your country and yourself the way the country and you deserve,” he said.
He congratulated all for successfully completing their training and said they should be proud of the profession. “All of those who join RDF are trained to face the challenges of the times we are in, including unexpected ones”.
