Rtd Gen Sekamana elected President of FERWAFA

Retired Brigadier General Jean-Damascène Sekamana this Saturday was elected to head the Rwandan Football Federation (FERWAFA) replacing Vincent Nzamwita, who did not want to run for another term.


The elections were conducted at Lemigo Hotel in Kigali, the retired general garnered 45 votes out of the 53 beating his rival Louis Rurangirwa, a former Rwandan international referee who only managed to get 7 votes.


Sekamana, 60, who recently retired from the Rwandan army will lead FERWAFA for a four-year renewable term from 2018 to 2021 with his Executive Committee.


After his election he requested the general assembly of FERWAFA to work together in improving football in the country. “We need teamwork to reach our target. This way, we shall be able to take Rwandan football to a higher level.”


Sekamana is the former SC Kiyovu president and current Intare Fc vice president, he has served in the Rwandan army and held several high military posts. He served in peacekeeping mission in South Sudan as Deputy Commander of the Blue Helmets and has been Project Coordinator of the Reserve Army Staff.
