The South African team dominated the competition winning three of the eight stages and was the best team securing a place for the European circuit.

The final stage victory in Kigali on Sunday went to Valens Ndayisenga with the defending champion salvaging his race. The sprint for second went to Redwan Ebrahim (Ethiopia) with Cameron Piper (Illuminate) in third place.

“I entered this race with an aim of winning and I thank God for my dream is a reality now. I dedicate this trophy to my family and all Rwandans especially those who were on the streets supporting me,” Areruya said.

Second in 2015 and fourth last year, Areruya secured the fourth straight win for Rwanda following overall wins for Jean Bosco Nsengiyumva and two for Ndayisenga.
