Amavubi Stars, Rwanda’s national soccer team has qualified for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) 2018 final tournament to take place in Morocco early next year. Rwanda made it to join the other 15 successful countries on the continent for home-based footballers.

Amavubi drew goal-less against Ethiopia in Kigali in the second leg of a play-off after defeating the Walia Stars 3-2 in the first leg played in Addis Ababa last Sunday.

Rwanda’s re-entry into the competition follows Egypt’s withdrew citing the refusal of clubs to release players which gave Rwanda and Ethiopia a second chance. Both countries had lost in the final round of regional eliminators — Rwanda to Uganda and Ethiopia to Sudan.

Now, Rwanda joins Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Libya, Mauritania, Namibia, Nigeria, Sudan, Uganda and Zambia to complete the line-up.

Morocco will host the tournament between January 12-February 4 after Kenya was ditched as hosts of the tournament having fallen behind with preparations and Morocco outvoted Equatorial Guinea for the right to replace them.
