Rahab Mukabahire, a resident of Kabeza in Nkomangwa cell in Munyiginya sector, Rwamagana District when she heard that the health post in her area was offering screening of non communicable diseases (NCDs) she woke up very early to attend.
Mukabahire observes that even though they have been sensitized to carry out screening of NCDs, they were discouraged by the distance to the health centre which is far from her home.
“I am very happy now that we can be examined for these diseases near our home without travelling all the way to health centre or Rwamagana hospital,” Mukabahire excitedly said.
“Sometimes a person can live with a disease unknowingly and yet NCDs screening is very important to know your health status,” she said. Adding that since the services have been brought near the people many will benefit in knowing their health status.
On November 8th, 2017, Ruhunda heath centre and Rwamagana hospital launched NCDs screening during an event at Munyiginya health post. The activities will continue in other areas of Rwamagana District by conducting awareness, sensitizations and educating about NCDs and how to combat against them.
According to Rhin Pierre Rukundo, the Head of Ruhunda health centre, this launch came after they observed that fewer people were coming to the health centre for screenings due to lack of information or how this can benefit their health.
The head of the health centre said that in coming days they will visit various areas raising awareness, offering screening and advising on preventive measures particularly conducting physical activities as a way of combating non communicable diseases.
Munyiginya health post has also been empowered with the introduction of new services which has eased healthcare to the local folks who were discouraged with the long distance Ruhunda health centre or other medical centre.
