FIFA chief expected in Kigali, visiting the region

Kigali: Gianni Infantino, President of the world football governing body, FIFA, is expected in Rwanda on February 24. The FIFA chief will be visiting various countries in his first high-profile visit to the region.


While in Rwanda, Infantino is expected to take part in laying a foundation stone on the construction of FERWAFA Village, a Rwf3.85 billion construction of recreation facility which will include a hotel, a gymnasium and mini-pitches.


The regional tour will see FIFA boss visit South Africa for the Federation of International Football Associations executive summit in Johannesburg, proceed to Zimbabwe, then Rwanda and later head to Uganda.  


Infantino was elected as the ninth FIFA President following corruption scandals forced Joseph Blatter to be suspended. Infantino is serving the remainder of the current term of office until 2019.
